You can transfer photos from your Sony A7 to your phone using Sony’s app. The exact steps depend on which A7 model you have, but the general process is similar.
1. Install the Sony app on your phone
Sony now uses the Creators’ App for newer cameras. Older A7 models use Imaging Edge Mobile.
If you have an original A7, A7 II, A7R II, A7S II, use Imaging Edge Mobile.
If you have an A7 IV, A7R V, A7C II, use Creators’ App.
2. Find your exact A7 model
The model name is usually on the front of the camera:
A7
A7 II
A7 III
A7 IV
A7R series
A7S series
A7C series
The setup differs slightly between generations.
3. For older A7 models (using Imaging Edge Mobile)
1. Turn on the camera.
2. Press MENU.
3. Go to Application or Wireless settings.
4. Select Send to Smartphone.
5. Choose:
Select on This Device (pick photos on the camera), or
Select on Smartphone.
6. The camera displays a QR code or Wi-Fi network name and password.
7. Open Imaging Edge Mobile on your phone.
8. Scan the QR code or connect to the camera’s Wi-Fi.
9. The selected images transfer to your phone.
4. For newer models (using Creators’ App)
1. Turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on your phone.
2. Open Creators’ App.
3. Follow the instructions to pair the camera.
4. On the camera, go to:
MENU → Network → Connect Smartphone.
5. Scan the QR code shown on the camera.
6. Once paired, you can browse and import images directly to your phone.
A few things to note
JPEG images transfer quickly.
RAW files usually cannot be transferred directly on older models; the camera sends a JPEG version instead.
The first connection can take a few minutes, but subsequent transfers are much faster.
If your phone says it has “no internet” when connected to the camera’s Wi-Fi, this is normal—stay connected until the transfer completes.
If you have the original Sony A7 (ILCE-7), you use Sony’s Imaging Edge Mobile app.
Before you start
Install Imaging Edge Mobile on your phone.
Make sure the camera has a reasonably charged battery.
To transfer photos
1. Turn on the camera.
2. Press the MENU button.
3. Go to the Playback menu (the triangle/play icon).
4. Select Send to Smartphone.
5. Choose Select on This Device.
6. Highlight the photo(s) you want to send and press the centre button to confirm.
7. The camera will display:
an SSID (Wi-Fi network name),
a password, and sometimes a QR code.
8. Open Imaging Edge Mobile on your phone.
9. Follow the prompts to connect to the camera’s Wi-Fi network, entering the password shown on the camera if necessary.
10. The selected photos will then transfer to your phone.
If you cannot find “Send to Smartphone”
Some original A7 cameras require Sony’s built-in PlayMemories Camera Apps feature:
Press MENU.
Go to Application.
Open Smart Remote Embedded or look for Send to Smartphone.
If the option is missing entirely, let me know what firmware version your A7 is running (MENU → Setup → Version), and I can guide you further.
A couple of points:
The original A7 transfers JPEGs. If you shoot RAW only, you may need to enable RAW+JPEG or allow the camera to create a reduced JPEG for transfer.
After the first setup, reconnecting is usually much quicker.
