For a Norsat 9000LDF LNB, you want a well-regulated, low-noise 12 V DC power supply. Switching power supplies can inject RF noise into sensitive radio astronomy equipment, so quality matters.
A good specification is:
- 12.0 V DC regulated
- Current capability: at least 500 mA (1 A gives plenty of margin)
- Low ripple: ideally <10 mV RMS, certainly <50 mV
- Centre-positive connector if using a DC barrel plug (check the polarity of your bias tee or injector)
The best options are:
- A linear regulated power supply – the quietest choice for radio astronomy.
- A high-quality laboratory bench power supply with the output set to 12.0 V.
- A good 12 V battery (sealed lead-acid or LiFePO₄) if portability is acceptable, as batteries are essentially noise-free.
