To make a Microsoft PowerPoint slideshow run automatically, you need to set timings and configure the show settings. Here’s the straightforward way:
1. Set slide timings (automatic advance)
- Go to the Transitions tab.
- In the Timing section:
- Uncheck On Mouse Click
- Check After and enter the number of seconds you want the slide to display.
- Click Apply to All if you want the same timing for every slide.
👉 Alternatively:
- Go to Slide Show → Rehearse Timings
- Click through your slides at the pace you want—PowerPoint records the timing automatically.
2. Set the slideshow to run automatically
- Go to Slide Show → Set Up Slide Show
- Under Show type, choose:
- Browsed at a kiosk (full screen)
This makes the slideshow loop and prevents manual clicking.
- Browsed at a kiosk (full screen)
- Make sure:
- Using timings, if present is checked.
3. Loop the presentation (optional)
In the same Set Up Slide Show window:
- Tick Loop continuously until ‘Esc’
4. Start the slideshow
- Press F5 or click From Beginning
Common pitfalls
- Slides won’t auto-advance if On Mouse Click is still checked.
- Animations also need timing if you want them to run automatically (set them in the Animations pane).
