Spillover effects and depth of parabola in radio astronomy dishes

Hi Alex,

I was interested that you were concerned about accuracy of parabola, because in the SARA meetings people often say that 1/20 lambda at H-Line is 1cm so variation on a dish can be quite big and not make a difference.

But you’ve introduced the idea that sharply curved dishes have a bigger problem with smaller levels of variation.

How does this work and how can I calculate the amount of variation on the dish surface that is tolerable?

Andy
