Michiel Klaassen’s UKRAA CosmicWatch Muon Detector Data Analysis Python Script 16 May 2025
Michiel kindly wrote this script for me to help me analyse the data I have from my Muon Detectors – these are the Cosmic Watch Muon Detectors – I have two of these at Lichfield Radio Observatory and use them in coincidence mode.

This script seems like a handy tool for analyzing data from Muon Detectors. I’m curious, how effective have you found the Cosmic Watch Muon Detectors in your observations? The idea of using them in coincidence mode is intriguing—does it significantly improve accuracy? I’d love to know more about the specific insights you’ve gained from this setup. Also, are there any challenges you’ve faced while using the script or the detectors? It’s great to see such practical applications of Python in scientific research. Do you think this script could be adapted for other types of detectors or experiments?
That is an awful lot of questions!
Coincidence mode is certainly an improvement = however, I would recommend the latest UKRAA PicoMuon Muon Detector which has better software support and works like a dream (at least so far in my experience).
