Andrew,
You are coming up with the same issues I did. How do you create an ISO – lots of advice on internet but none of which works.
Personally I use ActiveDisk imaging software for all my backups. I have a paid for account with this software but is allow me to create disk images and restore disk images. I run it on all my Windows machines but it simply images any disk attached whatever operating system.
Clonezilla is a free version which I have used in the past but found it a bit clunky and since paying for ActiveDisk Image I never looked back.
What you are looking to do is clone the microSD onto a pendrive. Within Ubunutu it claims you can do this with the dd command although I have not done it.
